Chery Automobile is reviving one of its most recognisable nameplates – the QQ – this time as a fully electric model. Sold internationally simply as the “Chery Q,” the compact electric crossover is now expanding into Asian and African markets as the Chinese automaker pushes further into affordable EV mobility.
The Chery Q has entered the Nepali market through Pioneer Moto Corp, the brand’s official distributor in the country. The car arrived in Kathmandu ahead of its formal unveiling and was showcased at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026, held at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, from August 11 to 16.

Background and Heritage
The Chery Q marks the return of the brand’s original QQ nameplate, first launched in China in 2003. The QQ also had a presence in Nepal around 2008 before it was discontinued in 2014. The new version reimagines the city car as a fully electric urban crossover, built on a dedicated EV platform that pairs a compact footprint with a roomier five-seat cabin. The model has picked up international design recognition as well, having received the 2025 Red Dot Design Award and the 2026 iF Design Award.
Overall Design
The Chery Q follows a “smart curves and square lines” design language, blending soft body surfacing with crisp, geometric detailing. Q-shaped LED headlights and semi-concealed door handles give the crossover a distinctly modern, tech-oriented character, while the compact proportions keep it firmly targeted at city driving and daily commuting rather than long-distance touring.

Exterior
The Chery Q measures 4,195 mm in length and rides on a 2,700 mm wheelbase -a notably long wheelbase for a car of this size, aimed at maximising cabin space without inflating the car’s footprint. Up front, oval-shaped headlights are paired with dual horizontal daytime running lights, while matching oval-style tail lamps at the rear visually tie the front and rear ends together. Under the bonnet area, the Q also offers a 70-litre front storage compartment (frunk), a practical extra made possible by the absence of a combustion engine.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the cabin is built around a large 15.6-inch 2.5K floating touchscreen infotainment display, running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset with AI-based voice control. Oval-shaped air-conditioning vents echo the exterior’s lighting theme, while a 50W wireless smartphone charger adds everyday convenience. Rounding out the tech package is Chery’s Falcon 500 driver-assistance suite, giving the crossover a notably premium feel for its segment and price point.

Range and Charging
The Chery Q is built on a dedicated EV platform with a rear-wheel-drive layout. It’s powered by a 41.2 kWh LFP battery paired with a 90 kW permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor, delivering a claimed range of up to 400 km under the NEDC cycle. Charging is handled through 85 kW DC fast-charging support, which Chery says can take the battery from 30 to 80 percent in roughly 16.5 minutes. The Q also comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, letting the battery power external devices – useful for outdoor use or as backup power during outages.
Ground Clearance
The Chery Q offers 175 mm of ground clearance. It’s a modest figure next to taller electric SUVs on the market, which may be a consideration for buyers who frequently venture onto rougher roads outside the Kathmandu Valley, though it should pose no issues for regular city and highway driving.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is one of the Chery Q’s stronger selling points. The car comes with up to six airbags, a 540-degree HD panoramic camera system, and autonomous parking assistance for tight urban spaces. It’s built on a body structure using roughly 82 percent high-strength steel, and includes ISOFIX child-seat mounts alongside a broader package of electronic safety systems. In total, the Q is equipped with more than 20 advanced driver-assistance features, covering everything from parking to collision avoidance.
