Apple’s AirPods 3 improvizes over the 2nd Generation. It provides a high-excursion Apple driver, with a high dynamic range amplifier, spacial audio with dynamic head tracking, and adaptive EQ which was not available with the previous generations. And the wireless charging is also supported by the case.

Design

The design part of AirPods (3rd Generation) has been revamped from its predecessor. It looks just like 2nd generation of the AirPods Pro but without the silicone tips. It is a half-in-ear fit, but a simply larger opening at the end.

Other than the fit, both the case and the buds are provided with a rating of IPX4 splash protection. The buds weigh slightly more, 4.28 gms compared to the 4 gm for AirPods 2. However, the case weighs a little less, around 37.91 gm. And the case in the 3rd Generation of AirPods is horizontal now, just like the Pro versions.

Sound

The 2nd to 3rd Gen is a huge upgrade for AirPods in terms of sound. There is a custom high-excursion Apple driver with a high dynamic range amplifier, spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, adaptive EQ, and such. However, there is no ANC and Transparency mode included. And the same H1 chip does all the required processes for the music and calls.

Talking about the calls, there are two dual beamforming, one of which is an inward-facing microphone. These two microphones, combined with processing from the chip make the voice clearer to the receiver.

Battery

About the battery, the earpieces stay with you for continuous 6 hours of music, videos, or normal listening. If you enable Spatial Audio, the playback decreases to around 5 hours and 4 hours for continuous calls. The AirPods 3’s case backs up for 25 hours of playback (30 hours combined) and for calls, it gives about 16 hours of backup (20 combined). Additionally, 5 minutes inside the case provides you with around an hour of listening.

Rest of the specs

Other things Apple’s AirPods 3 include Live Listen audio, motion-detection & speech-detection accelerometer, and a force sensor for touch controls. Further, the case supports charging with a lightning cable plus wirelessly with MagSafe or Qi-certified chargers. Also, there is Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless connectivity.
