New 15″ Form Factor
As the name suggests, the MacBook Air 15 features a 15.3-inch display. The screen real estate is 25% larger than most recent MacBook Airs, which all bring a 13-inch screen. The Liquid Retina display on the MacBook Air 15 boasts 500 nits of brightness and supports up to 1 billion colors. Apple has kept the bezels minimum at 5mm, and there is a notch on top to house the 1080P FaceTime camera.
It is housed inside a metal chassis that measures 11.5mm and weighs around 1.52 kg. Apple even claims it is the world’s thinner 15-inch laptop right now. Nevertheless, the MacBook Air 15 is available in four color options: Silver, Starlight, Space Gray, and Midnight — the same as its 13” counterpart.
Rest of the Specs
The other specs are pretty much the same across the MacBook Air lineup. The same M2 chip powers the new MacBook Air 15 as the 13-inch model. The chip has an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, along with 8GB of unified memory (RAM) on the base configuration.
It also lacks active cooling, which separates it from the Pros. The port selection is also the same; there is a 3.5mm headphone hack to the right, whereas MagSafe 3 resides on the left, along with two Thunderbolt 3 ports. The MagSafe 3 connector is fully made of recycled cobalt which Apple says is the first for the company.
Bigger Battery, Better Speaker
Thanks to its bigger form factor, Apple has managed to fit in a bigger battery in the MacBook Air 15. It now has a 66.5 Wh battery is larger than the 52.5Wh one on the 13-inch model. Apple ships the laptop with 35W dual USB-C port power brick and a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable by default. However, it supports fast charging up to 70W with a compatible power adapter.
Another small difference lies in the audio setup. While the regular 13-inch MacBook Air has quad speakers, the new 15-inch model adds two force-canceling woofers. As a result, the speaker setup is much closer to the premium 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
